ShomerDNS Shield

At ShomerDNS, we value your privacy

At ShomerDNS, we collect as little data from our users as necessary to provide the DNS service. We place a high value on the faith and trust of our users, and we do not sell, rent, or trade any aspect of our user's data.

Types of data we collect

Your Personal Information

If the information does not disclose your identity or enable your identity to be ascertained, it will in most cases not be classified as “Personal Information” and will not be subject to this privacy policy.

Just like any website you visit, when you visit ShomerDNS.com, we collect the public IP address of the network you are using, browser details, and the time of your visit.

Web Contact Form

We have a "contact form" link that takes you to a form at https://shomerdns.com/contact. When users fill in the form and click "send," an email is sent to us with the user's message, name, and email address.

DNS Servers

If you are using our DNS servers on your systems or network, we receive DNS queries from your systems or network. A DNS query is simply the domain you are trying to visit, and our server responds with the IP address of that domain.

For example, if you set our DNS servers on your systems or network and opened news.com.au in your browser, our server receives a request that you are trying to visit news.com.au, and it replies with the IP address of news.com.au.

Along with the DNS query, we also receive the time of your query and your public IP address. Your public IP address is essentially an identifier for your systems or network on the internet. Our DNS servers need your public IP address to respond to your DNS queries.

We do not receive the complete web address (e.g., a specific page or path) or any other data from your systems or network. We would only know that you are visiting the domain news.com.au, but we would not know if you are visiting the sports section or any specific page of that domain.

Our DNS servers only receive domain names, the time of visit, and your public IP address. We do not track or collect any other personal data.

Blocking Inappropriate Content

The main goal of ShomerDNS is to block inappropriate or unwanted content. When our servers receive DNS queries from your systems or network, ShomerDNS determines whether the domain you're trying to visit should be blocked. If not, the query is resolved and the IP address is sent back to you.

Rate Limitation and Security

We store public IP addresses received in order to implement rate limiting and block excessive requests. This is crucial for protecting against DNS Amplification DDoS attacks.

Upstream Servers

We use upstream servers to process DNS queries. When we receive DNS queries from your systems or network, we process them ourselves first and then forward them. Your public IP address and data are not sent to upstream servers, it appears as though the DNS query is coming from ShomerDNS.com.

Your Data Protection

Our servers and software are regularly checked for security updates. As soon as a new security patch is released, we do our best to implement it as quickly as possible.

Our website is protected with HTTPS (Secure SSL), ensuring that your activity on the site is encrypted.

If you are using our DNS servers, the information about your DNS queries is only used internally for the purposes of providing our DNS service.

Sharing of Your Data

We do not share your data with any other organization unless required by law. If we receive a query from a law enforcement agency related to a legal matter, we will share the information as required by law.
